Probably a corrupted processional dance adapted for static display and competitions around 1910. Related to the Royton dances this version leaves out the Royton polka stepping. Trefor reckons on there being 17 figures, we can manage 11 on a good day. Needs stamina, energy and a good set of legs. Collected @ 1970 TO.

Memories Proving a pointOne evening Ken comes into the practise and grabs Derek. "Look a photograph of us doing Failsworth and my leg is actually kicking higher than yours!". Derek looks at the photo for a moment or two before commenting "Yes Ken but mines on the way down!". OK the cogniscenti will spot that the high kick is not from Failsworth - the slings are a bit of a give away, But the grin just had to get into the page!

A dance concert with an audience of a certain age seated to watch these strange Northern people. Failsworth in full swing and lots of welly. George finds his kit beginning to show signs of stress but like a true trouper he shrugs out of the sash without missing a beat and throws the offending article into the crowd. A startled lady in the front row catches the flying object full face. As Derek strides up into the step-up he cheerfully tells her "Hang on to that lass, his breeches are coming over next".
