Welcome to the Wakefield Morris Dancers web site.

HEADLINES
A late invite to a community event in Wakefield added to the diary. It's in the last month of the year - (hint for any musicians reading this - that's December). So any chance of getting a team out? The event might be toddler based but toddlers have mums and dads who might just be interested in a fun filled pastime that's good for your health and where gender is not an issue and families are welcomed. Just a recruiting type thought there.
Though no one actually marked their diary with "Start of the Wakefield Morris" it's reckoned that 2010 must be at least thirty years since the team started. So it's a bit special then. Any old timers who want to roll by and dispute the dates will be welcome - keep an eye on the diary pages for events celebrating the 30 year mark. One big invite to deal with is the one to Sidmouth Folk Week. Looks like a split between the "all week" group and the "three day" group. But back of the fag packet calculations suggest that four dancers fit and willing to do a six day stint aided by eight dancers happy to put in three days worth can theoretically produce an eight dancer side for six days. Wonder if that can be worked out in reality?
The long term plan for the web pages is still to finish off the "Roll of Honour", listing as many members of the side past and present, as I can recall details for. Then there are a stack of videos now transferred to DVD that need cataloguing and who know's even a sample or two to go on the web.

The objective of the site is to give you information on the Wakefield team. Within the site you will find some of the teams history and other bits of hopefully useful information. If you are thinking about joining the team then the FAQ page may answer some of your questions and concerns. If you want to identify the team on that photo you took last year try looking at the description of the mens kit or if the dancers are in skirts take a look at the womens outfits . If the dancers in your photo are men in skirts try a search for the Bacup Coconut Dancers! If the team is Wakefield and you want to identify a dance the take a look at the repertoire page. The only notation to be had is a Gisburn variant done as a workshop for Ripley Green Garters in February 2007 as a counter to the Cotswold "Bonny Green Garters".

If you want to see the team in action, or for some curious reason avoid us then check out the diary page. If you could not put a name to the face you met when you last saw the team then explore the photo gallery where at least some of the stuff is captioned. If you want to meet us in the flesh in an informal setting then the Methodist Hall on Horbury High Street is the place to be on most Monday evenings in the autumn and winter, from about 8.00pm onwards. This changes in the spring and summer to a pub of our choice, check out the diary for details.

Why not try our simple life style questionnaire and see if you are really getting the most out of life?
